A VPN, or Virtual Private Network, is used to link all of your office locations and data centers so that your entire workforce can communicate as though they were on one network. An internet-based IP VPN works over the public internet and is relatively inexpensive. But it is do-it-yourself to set up and maintain, and you must make sure to set up secure encryption protocols properly. MPLS VPNs use a service provider’s private network, which is more secure and creates higher-quality connections. These include VPLS, which uses Ethernet, and Layer 3 MPLS, which runs on any broadband connection.
